Abbie
Gardner and Anthony da Costa are a folk music duo
from Stony Point and
Pleasantville, NY, respectively. With just a guitar and a
dobro (with the occasional lap steel and/or lame joke) these two
have been playing stages across the Northeast as a duo since July
'07 where they made their (in)formal debut in the hills of the
Falcon Ridge Folk Festival.
Abbie (2006 Rocky Mtn. Folks Festival
Finalist) regularly plays in the female Americana trio Red Molly,
while Anthony (2007 Kerrville Folk Festival NEW FOLK Winner) usually
tours and records as a solo act. However, with their debut CD "Bad
Nights/Better Days", due in April '08, the two have stepped out into
the scene as a mean music machine. Raw and in real-time, there's
nothing artificial about this duo (with Anthony's sudden extreme
muscle development as a rare exception). They write the songs they
used to be afraid to write. They sing with their hearts on their
sleeves. Sit back and enjoy (or get up and start yelling and waving
your arms or something, they'll know you're into it)
While this is Anthony's first visit to
our home, this will be Abbie's third visit, having been here in 2006
as a guest with We're About 9, then in 2007 as a member of Red
Molly. We are so excited to have them come to Court House Concerts
to celebrate the release of their first duo CD Bad
Nights/Better Days.
===================================
Influenced by the likes of Bob Dylan,
Toby Walker, John Hammond, and Chris Smither,
Phil Minissale is
on a crusade to introduce the Blues to younger audiences. "Cats my
age know nothing about roots music, and that’s a shame."
Although Phil is Long Island born, he grew up in the Brandywine
Valley of Eastern Pennsylvania. In September 2006, Phil returned to
the area and now lives in Stony Brook, New York. "It’s nice to be
back around my extended family. It’s like coming home to my own
roots."
In just a few short months, Phil has become a crowd favorite at folk
societies, festivals and coffee houses throughout the Mid-Atlantic
and Northeast states. His fingerstyle guitar playing and instincts
for finding new melodies are far beyond his years.
We have always enjoyed seeing Phil at
venues all around the New York area, and are thrilled to have him
join us. Phil's set should be a real treat in its own right, but I
suspect that before the night is over we'll see Phil, Abbie and Anthony
playing together, and when that happens the Court House will ROCK.
