Court House Concerts A brief, yet
uninteresting history March 2008..... We didn't really plan to be hosts for house concerts. We go to a lot of shows, and some of the best ones we have attended have been in homes, such as Tim and Lori Blixt's Cabin Concert series, or Rockin' Ron DiGennaro's Red Cedar Soundstage shows. We loved the feeling of closeness and the spontaneity the setting inspired in the artists. In the Fall of 2003 we went to a place somewhere in New Jersey to see We're About 9. I suppose I could look it up, but it doesn't really matter - what mattered was the two-plus hours we spent in the car getting there. During intermission we spoke to Brian, Katie and Pat about two things - starting a discussion group about the band, and encouraging them to play closer to our home. Brian, being the shy, reserved fellow that he is, said "Why don't we play at your house?" And an idea is born. The upcoming show in July will now be the sixth one we are doing. We had such fun doing the first, it was clear that we'd want to do it again. Then, defying the sophomore slump, the second was every bit as much fun. So, we kept on doing shows on a very select basis, treating each show not as a concert, but rather as a get-together of friends featuring a performance by some very talented folks that we happen to know. We have absolutely loved hosting We're About 9 for four years, and look forward to the FIFTH ANNUAL this fall. We had a blast last February with Red Molly and Jim Colbert, and now Abbie Gardner is coming back in her third incarnation here at the Court House. Anthony da Costa and Phil Minissale will be here for the first time in July, expanding the roster but keeping true to our idea that the people who play here are here not just as musicians, but as friends. Thanks for reading. Please try to join us for the show.
